| FuelCellStocks.Com Fuel Cell News July 28, 2005 Energy bill provides billions for fuel cell technologies A compromise measure moving through Congress would provide up to four billion dollars for the rapidly growing fuel cells industry. Fuel cell advocates say the bill would put fuel cells on a par with other technologies such as solar power as an important energy alternative. Lawmakers not only authorized nearly two billion dollars over the next five years for more research and development, but provided more than one million dollars for demonstration projects and set up a tax incentive program for customers who buy fuel cells for either vehicles or buildings. Jan van Dokkum, the president of UTC Power in South Windsor, says the
tax incentives in the bill would help boost investment fuel cells. He
also says the bill would allow telecommunications companies to participate
in the tax incentives -- which was not allowed previously.
